Product Details

Pre-order a stunning new debut novel by Ann Featherstone. Walking in Pimlico is an absolute joy to read. It’s the type of book you always look for but rarely find. It has everything; a captivating plot, nail-biting suspense, a lovable hero and a monstrous villain, humour, pathos, brilliant language and style, fascinating historical detail and, above all, authenticity.

It is a page-turner with twists and turns. The characters are vividly drawn. You will adore the central characters. Corney is so likeable, warm and real. His dialogue is wonderful. You will also love the alternate narrations revealing the innermost thoughts of both characters. This technique helps you to identify with Corney and be even more repulsed by the killer.

The language and the style of writing is brilliant. There are some very descriptive and comical similes; indeed many had us laughing out loud.

The historical detail is intriguing and it was one of the most authentic books of its genre that you will read. Ann Featherstone ranks with Michael Faber and Sarah Waters who are, in Doodled Books opinion, two of the greatest writers alive today. We believe there will be more to come from this writer. She is a brilliant writer and this is one of the best books you will ever read. Truly amazing!
Each book in stock will be signed, lined, dated, doodled and numbered 1 to 20. The books are first edition first impressions. Every doodle will be unique.
Product Description
To ‘walk in Pimlico’ colloq. to be handsomely dressed
Murray’s Dictionary of Slang, Cant and Flash Words and Phrases (1857, 3rd ed.).

Stumbling across Bessie Spooner’s murdered body, comedian Corney Sage is caught in a tangle of deception and lies. He flees from his concert-room job in London’s Whitechapel to a comfortable spa town, and then to a circus and music hall. But try as he might, he cannot elude the killer. And in Corney’s world of theatricals, clowns and showmen, where appearances are surface deep and secrets are deadly, any one of them might be the murderer . . .

From the drawing rooms of polite society to dingy lodging houses, through shabby pump-room pavilions, fairgrounds and freak shows, Ann Featherstone brilliantly reconstructs nineteenth-century England in this gripping psychological thriller.
About the Author
